Life in the South

Fields that grow cotton in the summer and fall grow this purple flower in the spring.  Not sure what it is.
This irrigation unit seems to go on forever.

A roadside market near Dawson Georgia, even selling cotton.

And tiny pumpkins.

And boiled peanuts.

A roadside yard on our ride to church each Sunday.

A recent trip to Burt's Pumpkin Farm in Amicalola Falls Georgia.  Levi gets to ride, at least until the wheelbarrow is full.

Burt's grows their own pumpkins and popcorn.  And they have lots of both.

Pumpkins lead a violent life.

The (still growing) pumpkin patch.

Ella on the hay ride at Burt's.

The popcorn field, looking back toward Amicalola Mountain.

Adalia's first hay ride.

These are Olivia's pictures, (as you can see).

Levi was not up to posing.  The day was cold but sunny.

Burt's is an unashamedly Christian business.

Gabe in the creek that flows from Amicalola Falls.

We just got back from a conference in Asheville, North Carolina.  We had to rent a cabin in the mountains, since the hotel was full.  The colors were at their peak.  This was the driveway to the cabin.

The first day was cold, rainy and misty.

A distant cousin plays with Gabriel from a few rows up.

Kevin Swanson.  Great as always.

The last day, the clouds lifted and left snow on the peaks of the Appalachian Mountains.  The Blue Ridge Parkway runs right along the tops of these ridges.

Oh, and also I looked it up and I think that the purple flower on the cotton fields is purple vetch. Of course I can't be sure without being there, it is just my best guess.
